A recent analysis by UNICEF indicates that female students face a significantly higher risk of abandoning their education following climate-related catastrophes such as wildfires, storms, and extreme heat. Data from the previous year reveals that over 171 million students across 106 nations experienced educational interruptions due to severe weather events. When school facilities are destroyed or learning shifts to virtual platforms, girls frequently encounter increased domestic burdens, including the need to collect water or provide care for family members. These challenges are exacerbated by financial instability within households, which heightens the likelihood of child marriage. Consequently, many girls find it nearly impossible to resume their studies once educational institutions eventually reopen, marking a significant setback for gender equality in global education systems.
