Following the inaugural parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines has issued a call for the incoming officials to foster unity. Archbishop Gilbert Garcera emphasized that the newly elected parliament members should focus on the common good rather than partisan agendas, advocating for the protection of rights for Muslims, Christians, and Indigenous groups alike. Citing religious principles, the leadership encouraged ongoing dialogue and cooperation among diverse communities to ensure lasting stability and justice. The region recently concluded its first parliamentary vote with a high turnout of over 84 percent. The eighty successful candidates are scheduled to take their positions on October 30, where they will begin a five-year term tasked with selecting a chief minister and advancing the region's self-governance goals.
