Opposition leader Chee Soon Juan has expressed strong disapproval of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's recent National Day Rally address. The Singapore Democratic Party chief argued that the government's strategy of providing financial aid, such as the S$70,000 grant per child, fails to address the fundamental concerns of the younger generation. While Chee acknowledged that monetary assistance is helpful due to the rising costs of living, he questioned whether fiscal handouts are a sufficient solution for long-term societal challenges. According to the politician, the government should prioritize the broader environment and future conditions in which Singaporean youth will develop, rather than relying primarily on financial incentives to mitigate public anxiety.
