A Chinese citizen identified as Lu Haitao was successfully extracted from a 225-meter hydropower tunnel in Nepal on September 5. The rescue operation was conducted by a collaborative team consisting of Nepalese military personnel and disaster response experts from South Korea. Lu, a farmer from Henan province who had been working in Nepal since February 2026, had been trapped for ten days following flash floods. Footage released by the Nepalese Prime Minister depicted the evacuation process via helicopter, with medical personnel providing immediate care. In statements provided to Chinese state media, Lu described his efforts to signal rescuers by shouting whenever he observed light sources within the tunnel. His family confirmed his identity and expressed relief upon seeing reports of his survival. The rescue concludes a ten-day ordeal for the individual after the tunnel was compromised by severe weather conditions.
