The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has deferred the legal proceedings against former government minister Wimal Weerawansa and five co-defendants until December 7. The case stems from a 2016 demonstration staged outside the United Nations office in Colombo, which occurred during the visit of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. During the latest session, Additional Magistrate Lahiru Silva oversaw the testimony of the eighth witness, who was ordered to return for the next hearing. Furthermore, the court issued an arrest warrant for the fifth witness, who failed to attend the scheduled proceedings. Weerawansa and the other accused individuals, who are presently released on bail, were present in court as the Cinnamon Gardens Police continue to present evidence regarding the incident.
