The Royal Thai Navy has officially designated South Korea's Hanwha Ocean as the contractor for a new frigate acquisition. Announced by Admiral Pairoj Fueangchan on September 18, the agreement is valued at 16.73 billion baht, approximately 496 million US dollars. Navy officials emphasized that the selection followed a transparent and standardized procurement procedure. The contract encompasses the construction of the vessel, integrated onboard systems, necessary equipment, and comprehensive logistical support. Furthermore, the budget includes provisions for spare parts, technical documentation, personnel training, and long-term warranties. This procurement initiative, which remains under a 17 billion baht spending cap, is part of the navy's broader strategic modernization plan.
