An eight-year-old girl named Aaswana Chauhan has passed away after sustaining a cobra bite at her residence in Itahari. The child was bitten on her left hand on Wednesday evening, though her family did not identify the injury until they observed blood. She was initially transported to a Nepal Army snakebite facility in Itahari, where medical staff administered antivenom. However, because the facility lacked an intensive care unit, she was subsequently referred to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for advanced medical support. The delay in accessing specialized intensive care proved fatal for the young victim. This incident highlights ongoing challenges regarding the availability of critical care resources for snakebite victims in the region.
