Kazakhstani tennis player Elena Rybakina has reached a historic milestone by becoming the first athlete from her nation to attain the world number one ranking in the WTA. This achievement was solidified during the US Open, where she defeated Aryna Sabalenka in a three-set final with scores of 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. This victory marked Rybakina’s third career Grand Slam title and successfully halted Sabalenka’s impressive 19-match winning streak. Although Rybakina had already mathematically secured the top ranking following her quarterfinal win against Zheng Qinwen, her tournament victory provided a definitive conclusion to her campaign. Her success in New York is particularly notable given the uncertainty surrounding her preparation, as she had taken a week-long hiatus from competitive play immediately prior to the start of the tournament.
