French President Emmanuel Macron has strongly criticized the intense violence that occurred during recent demonstrations regarding the rising cost of living. Clashes between law enforcement and protesters resulted in nearly 2,400 arrests across the nation. According to the interior ministry, approximately 1,000 police officers and gendarmes sustained injuries, with seven individuals in serious condition. The unrest led to significant destruction, including the burning of municipal buildings and the looting of numerous commercial establishments. In a national address, Macron expressed deep regret over the situation and indicated that authorities might prohibit specific future demonstrations if deemed necessary. However, the President opted against implementing more severe measures like a curfew or a state of emergency at this time, while questioning the motives behind the destructive behavior seen in French cities.
