Hammoda Abu-Odah, a dedicated nurse and researcher from Gaza, faced significant hurdles in his pursuit of higher education abroad. Despite securing six separate opportunities to study internationally, he was consistently thwarted by border closures and stringent travel restrictions. Throughout these setbacks, he remained committed to his professional development by continuing to teach and conduct research within his home region. His persistence eventually paid off on his seventh attempt, allowing him to successfully relocate to Hong Kong. Now established as a scholar in the city, his journey serves as a testament to his resilience and academic ambition. His story is currently being recognized through the Spirit of Hong Kong Awards, highlighting his transition from a healthcare practitioner in Gaza to a professor contributing to the academic landscape of Hong Kong.
