The Tashkent city council has approved a project to procure 14 five-car trains for the capital's metro system, with completion targeted for 2027. This initiative aims to modernize the fleet, enhance passenger capacity, and lower maintenance expenditures. While seven international manufacturers were initially evaluated, the selection process focuses on proposals from CRRC, Global Transport Solutions, and Hyundai Rotem. The decision to limit train length to five cars stems from existing station infrastructure constraints, which would require significant funding to modify. Currently, the metro network serves over 800,000 daily passengers, with recent record ridership exceeding 1.2 million. The new rolling stock will feature more efficient asynchronous traction motors, replacing older Soviet-era technology to improve overall operational reliability and safety across the four-line transit system.
