A student-led initiative at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, known as the Happy Chick Feeding Cooperative, has been permanently shut down following the theft of its livestock. The project, which aimed to promote sustainability and human-nature connections through permaculture and food-waste composting, suffered a setback when construction workers stole and consumed ten chickens and two geese. Although the perpetrators provided financial compensation, the incident triggered significant criticism regarding the presence of animals on campus. Consequently, university administrators prohibited the continuation of the program. The cooperative was an integral component of a seven-year-old initiative that transformed a former construction waste site into a productive garden. Despite the students' efforts to foster ecological awareness and manage food scraps, the school's decision to ban the practice effectively terminated the project.
