Data provided by lawmaker Kang Min-kuk indicates that South Korea's central bank and three government-affiliated lenders faced over one million cyberattack attempts during the first nine months of the current year. This figure, totaling 1,024,478 incidents, represents a 9.6 percent increase compared to the 934,858 attempts recorded throughout the entirety of 2025. The frequency of these digital threats has shown a consistent upward trend, rising significantly from 358,800 recorded cases in 2020. Despite the substantial volume of these hacking efforts, the affected financial institutions have confirmed that no security breaches have occurred as a result of these activities between 2020 and September of this year.
