During a community event held on October 11, independent gubernatorial candidate Blas Jonathan “BJ” Attao acknowledged the significant role Filipinos have played in the development of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Attao, who is campaigning with House Speaker Edmund S. Villagomez for the upcoming November 3 elections, emphasized that Filipino workers were instrumental in constructing essential infrastructure, including schools, hotels, and residential buildings. Furthermore, he highlighted the long-standing impact of Filipino caregivers in supporting local families and raising generations of island residents. Attao stated that these individuals should be viewed as integral members of the community rather than merely temporary laborers under the CNMI-Only Transitional Worker program. His remarks served as a tribute to the deep-rooted connections between the Filipino community and the local population of Saipan.
