The escalating control of the Bab al-Mandab Strait by Houthi rebels, coupled with drone attacks on Saudi infrastructure, is creating significant geopolitical pressure for the Turkish government. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s recent efforts to strengthen ties with Riyadh, including participation in a Saudi-led naval coalition and a trilateral defense agreement with Pakistan, have limited Ankara's diplomatic flexibility. While Turkey maintains it is not a direct participant in the broader conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, these new security commitments raise concerns about the country's potential entanglement in regional hostilities. Analysts are now questioning whether Turkey can fulfill these military obligations without being drawn into a wider confrontation, as the security environment in the Gulf continues to deteriorate rapidly.
