Major Indonesian airports have officially reopened following a temporary closure triggered by volcanic ash from the Anak Krakatau eruption. The natural event caused significant travel chaos, leading to the cancellation of approximately 3,000 flights and affecting over 340,000 passengers. Five key airports, including the primary hub in Jakarta, are now operational after maintenance crews successfully cleared debris from essential facilities. Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that while the recovery process has begun, returning to full flight schedules will be a gradual effort. Authorities are currently prioritizing the safety and airworthiness of nearly 180 aircraft stationed at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Officials have requested public patience as they conduct necessary inspections to ensure that all flights can resume safely following the widespread disruption.
