The Agency for Protection and Development of Competition in Kazakhstan has officially cautioned the ride-hailing platform inDrive after reports surfaced regarding substantial price surges. On October 11, following technical difficulties that rendered Yandex Go temporarily inaccessible, many commuters turned to alternative services. This sudden shift in user demand led to reports of fares on the inDrive platform increasing by nearly three times their typical cost. Competition authorities highlighted that the local taxi aggregator sector remains highly concentrated. Consequently, the agency is examining international regulatory frameworks intended to prevent excessive price spikes during periods of emergency or unexpected market disruption. The warning serves as a formal response to the reported volatility in pricing that occurred when the primary market competitor experienced service interruptions.
