Lao law enforcement officials confiscated 521 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine from a private jet that landed at Luang Prabang International Airport. The operation, which occurred on October 1, followed intelligence received by provincial police in late September regarding a suspected drug smuggling syndicate utilizing private aviation for cross-border trafficking. Authorities were alerted to a change in the flight schedule, leading them to monitor the aircraft upon its arrival from Malaysia. During the inspection, officers discovered 23 suitcases containing the illicit substances. In connection with this seizure, 13 individuals have been taken into custody for further investigation. The operation highlights ongoing efforts by regional authorities to disrupt aerial drug trafficking networks.
