The South Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare has announced plans to integrate artificial intelligence and robotics into its eldercare infrastructure to address a looming shortage of nearly one million caregivers. Starting next year, the government will launch pilot programs across various regions, including Seongnam, Mokpo, and Yeongam, covering over 400 households. Additionally, AI-based welfare consultation trials are scheduled to commence in ten different areas. Officials emphasized that these technological initiatives are intended to supplement human care rather than serve as a complete replacement for human workers. This strategic shift aims to manage the challenges posed by the nation's rapidly aging population and the anticipated labor deficit in the healthcare sector over the coming decades.
