The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has stated that the danger of volcanic ash from Indonesia’s Anak Krakatau impacting Malaysia is currently minimal. Director-general Dr. Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip explained that existing wind patterns and satellite observations indicate the ash plume is primarily contained within the Sunda Strait region. While the risk is low, officials noted that shifts in atmospheric conditions or intensified volcanic activity could alter the situation. MetMalaysia is maintaining continuous surveillance through satellite imagery and atmospheric analysis. Furthermore, the agency is coordinating with international Volcanic Ash Advisory Centres to track any potential movement of debris into Malaysian airspace. The public will be kept informed should the situation change, as the department remains vigilant regarding the ongoing eruptions that began last Friday.
