Minister of Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) Tan See Leng recently addressed a parliamentary discussion regarding the review of ministerial salaries. During the September 10 debate, titled "2026 Review of Salaries for Political Appointment Holders and Members of Parliament," he stated that financial gain was not his primary motivation for entering public service. Tan transitioned into politics in 2020, following a career spanning over three decades in the private sector, where he initially worked as a doctor and later as a healthcare entrepreneur. He explained that he chose to serve the nation despite having a successful private career that offered greater financial rewards than a ministerial position. Tan underscored his desire to contribute to the country and its citizens, acknowledging that this sentiment might not be shared by everyone.
