Ashish Gajurel, Chairperson of the Infrastructure Development Committee, has advocated for a fundamental change in how Nepal approaches construction projects. Speaking at a symposium in Lalitpur, he argued that the nation should prioritize quality and sustainability over the sheer volume of infrastructure. Gajurel stressed that transport networks must be integrated with agricultural and industrial production to ensure economic viability. He also highlighted the necessity of resilient construction to mitigate damage from natural disasters like floods and landslides. Furthermore, he addressed the strain caused by unplanned settlements on state resources and called for clearer development policies. To bridge the funding gap, Gajurel invited private and international investment, pledging government support to resolve procedural hurdles in land acquisition and environmental assessments. He urged policymakers to incorporate expert insights from the symposium into future national infrastructure strategies.
