The Workers’ and Peasants’ Party (WPP) has requested an immediate session of the National Tripartite Industrial Peace Council to address the anticipated consequences of a severe El Niño cycle. Citing forecasts from the state weather bureau, Pagasa, which predict the phenomenon will intensify through late 2026 and continue into mid-2027, the group emphasized the need for proactive measures. The WPP is advocating for comprehensive protections for laborers and agricultural workers, including safeguards against extreme heat, job and wage security, and support for crop preservation. Additionally, the organization highlighted the importance of water conservation and emergency financial assistance for families likely to be affected by the climate event. The appeal aims to minimize the economic and social burden on vulnerable sectors before the peak of the weather disturbance.
