Nepal has formally requested that the international mountaineering community classify six additional peaks within its borders as being over 8,000 metres in height. Currently, the nation is home to eight mountains recognized in this category. During the UIAA general assembly held in Kathmandu, the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) submitted a comprehensive study to support this proposal. NMA president Phurba Gyalje Sherpa provided technical data for the six mountains, which include Yalung Kang at 8,505 metres, Kanchenjunga South at 8,476 metres, Kanchenjunga Central at 8,473 metres, Lhotse Middle at 8,410 metres, Lhotse Shar at 8,400 metres, and Yalung Kang West at 8,077 metres. The initiative aims to officially update the global records for these specific high-altitude summits.
