Özgür Özel, the leader of the newly established New Party (YP), has formally rejected the possibility of forming an electoral alliance with the Republican People’s Party (CHP). This decision follows recent comments from CHP chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who had suggested a potential partnership for upcoming elections. Özel characterized the current CHP leadership as illegitimate, claiming it functions as an apparatus of the government. He explicitly stated that any cooperation would grant undue legitimacy to Kılıçdaroğlu’s administration. The tension stems from a court ruling that reinstated Kılıçdaroğlu as CHP chair, an event Özel and his supporters view as politically motivated. While Özel remains open to collaborating with other opposition groups, he maintains that the current CHP leadership is fundamentally unacceptable for any political partnership, dismissing previous offers of cooperation as attempts to manipulate public perception.
