The Penang Island City Council has mandated an immediate suspension of all condominium and road construction activities near Taman Seri Rambai in Paya Terubong. This directive follows a landslide that occurred this morning, resulting in the death of a 73-year-old physician, Wong Kar Lin, whose residence was struck by the earth movement. Mayor Datuk A. Rajendran confirmed that the stop-work order is necessary to allow for a thorough investigation into the disaster. While slope stabilization efforts were already underway at the site, authorities have now instructed residents of six nearby homes to evacuate as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety. The council is currently overseeing the situation to determine the stability of the surrounding terrain before any further development can proceed.
