Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is overseeing a critical flood response as 2.6 million people across 29 provinces face severe inundation. While rainfall in Bangkok has subsided, the government is struggling to manage massive water volumes moving south toward the capital and surrounding areas like Ayutthaya and Nonthaburi. Major reservoirs, including Pa Sak Jolasid, are nearing capacity, necessitating increased water releases into already swollen river systems. During field inspections in affected Bangkok neighborhoods, the Prime Minister monitored relief efforts, including food distribution and utility restoration. Despite facing mixed reactions from residents, Mr. Anutin emphasized the importance of direct site visits to assess community needs. Officials are currently prioritizing the drainage of trapped water while preparing for the potential impact of further heavy rainfall, which could complicate efforts to move water through the Central Plains.
