The prevailing narrative often characterizes Generation Alpha as a cohort defined exclusively by their constant interaction with digital screens and technology. However, this perspective may be overly reductive. A recent observation of a twelve-year-old visitor to Malaysia highlights that children raised in the digital era still cultivate unique and traditional pastimes. This particular youth demonstrates a keen interest in numismatics, specifically focusing on error coins—currency pieces that contain unintentional mistakes from the minting process. Such interests suggest that despite the ubiquity of smartphones and artificial intelligence in their daily lives, these children are capable of pursuing specialized, non-digital hobbies that require patience and attention to detail. This case serves as a reminder that the younger generation possesses diverse intellectual pursuits that extend far beyond their digital environments, challenging the simplistic assumptions frequently made about their development and behavioral patterns.
