A 36-year-old woman, Wanna Sridachama, was killed by a wild elephant while harvesting latex with her husband in Chonburi’s Nong Yai district on Sunday morning. After spotting the animal, the victim alerted her husband to flee, but the elephant pursued her instead, resulting in her death. Local authorities and rescue teams arrived at the scene to secure the area and investigate the incident. This tragedy marks the third fatal elephant encounter in Chonburi rubber plantations within the last four months, highlighting a growing conflict between wildlife and agricultural workers. Official data indicates that wild elephants have caused 273 deaths across Thailand since 2012. Wildlife agencies are currently monitoring the region and have issued warnings for residents to exercise extreme caution and avoid approaching wild animals, urging them to contact officials immediately if an elephant is sighted.
