According to a report from the Centre for Research on Energy and the Clean Air, Russia reached a record high of 172,000 tonnes in petroleum product imports during August. This shift follows significant Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian refining infrastructure, which have caused domestic fuel shortages. A substantial portion of these imports originated from the Vadinar refinery in India, which is partially owned by the Russian firm Rosneft. These shipments often involved ship-to-ship transfers near Egypt before reaching Arctic ports. While Russia remains a major crude oil exporter to nations like India and China, it has been compelled to purchase refined products from abroad to meet internal demand. Additional supplies were sourced from South Korea, with emerging reports suggesting Turkey has also begun exporting gasoline to Russia as of September.
