Ben Delo, a co-founder of the BitMEX cryptocurrency exchange, has provided a £36 million donation to Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party. This contribution marks the largest single political gift in the history of the United Kingdom. Delo explained his decision in the Daily Telegraph, stating that he intends to foster a more competitive political environment by supporting a party that lacks the extensive financial resources of the Labour or Conservative parties. He characterized his donation as an effort to challenge the existing political establishment, which he described as a cartel. Originally planning to distribute £1 million monthly until the 2029 general election, Delo opted to provide the entire sum upfront. This significant financial injection arrives while the party is currently navigating various controversies related to its funding practices.
