Senator Panfilo Lacson has clarified that his recent remarks regarding due process for Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa are not intended to exempt his colleague from International Criminal Court (ICC) proceedings. Lacson emphasized that his primary concern is ensuring that any potential arrest of the senator is conducted peacefully to avoid violence or tragic outcomes. He argued that upholding due process is a universal right, which in this context means providing the former police chief an opportunity to address the allegations against him in a legal setting rather than through forceful confrontation. Lacson, who previously worked with Dela Rosa in the Philippine National Police, maintained that his position focuses on the procedural safety of the arrest process rather than challenging the jurisdiction of the international tribunal.
