The Seoul Central District Court has acquitted former President Yoon Suk Yeol regarding allegations that he misused his executive authority to shield former Defense Minister Lee Jong-sup from a criminal probe. The legal case centered on the 2023 death of a Marine and accusations that the former president attempted to obstruct the subsequent investigation. Prosecutors had alleged that Yoon violated the State Public Officials Act and engaged in harboring a criminal by appointing Lee as the ambassador to Australia last November. However, the court ruled in favor of the 65-year-old former leader, dismissing the charges of abuse of authority and other related offenses brought against him.
