The World Intellectual Property Organization has selected Shanghai as one of the first recipients of its newly established City of Innovation award. Alongside Shanghai, the cities of Charleroi in Belgium and Liverpool in the United Kingdom were also honored during the inaugural edition of the program. This initiative, launched in 2026, aims to highlight urban centers that demonstrate significant commitment to fostering creative potential and driving development through innovation. By acknowledging these proactive efforts, the organization seeks to promote strategies that facilitate urban transformation. The award was presented at the WIPO headquarters in Geneva, where representatives accepted the recognition on behalf of their respective municipal governments.
