The 39th Tokyo International Film Festival will feature a screening of the 1987 Iranian masterpiece "Where Is the Friend’s House?" by the late director Abbas Kiarostami. This presentation is part of a special program honoring films admired by the iconic Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. The screening is scheduled for October 26 at TOHO Cinemas Chanter. The film, which depicts a young boy’s quest to return a classmate’s notebook, is widely recognized for its naturalistic style and its role in introducing Iranian cinema to global audiences. It will be showcased alongside works by Charlie Chaplin and Kurosawa himself. As the first entry in the Koker trilogy, the movie remains a significant piece of Kiarostami’s legacy, reflecting his signature blend of simplicity, moral inquiry, and poetic storytelling that defined his career within the Iranian New Wave movement.
