A criminal network allegedly led by former Jubo Dal figure Mostafa Jaglul Pasha, known as Papel, is reportedly extorting significant sums from businesses in Dhaka's Gabtoli and Mirpur-1 districts. Traders operating brick, sand, and stone depots are purportedly forced to pay monthly fees ranging from 20,000 to 25,000 taka. Additionally, transport vehicles face daily levies of up to 350 taka, while vessels at river landing stations are also targeted for payments. Local sources estimate that these illegal activities generate over 10 million taka in monthly revenue. Despite these allegations involving Papel and his associates, local reports indicate that no formal disciplinary measures have been initiated against the individuals involved in these operations.
