Minister for Social and Family Development Masagos Zulkifli disclosed that 687 cases of child abuse involving children aged six and under necessitated statutory intervention in 2025. Among these incidents, three children suffered severe injuries, while no fatalities were recorded for that year. These figures were released in a written response to a parliamentary inquiry from Nominated Member of Parliament Kenneth Poon, who requested data on substantiated abuse and neglect cases between 2021 and 2025. The inquiry specifically sought details regarding children aged three or younger, including the frequency of serious injuries and deaths. Furthermore, the Minister noted that there were two child fatalities linked to abuse cases reported between 2021 and 2024. The government continues to monitor these statistics to assess the effectiveness of existing child protection measures and the history of prior reports to relevant agencies.
