The Thai Department of Disease Control has released a public health advisory regarding melioidosis, commonly referred to as soil fever, following a surge in infections. Official data indicates that 3,102 cases and 136 deaths have been documented across the nation so far this year. Officials highlighted that persistent rainfall and stagnant water have heightened the risk of bacterial exposure. Individuals engaged in agricultural labor, as well as those suffering from diabetes, chronic kidney issues, or thalassemia, are considered to be at the highest risk. While the disease persists year-round, health experts noted that transmission rates typically climb during the monsoon season. Residents living in regions susceptible to flooding are urged to exercise caution and implement preventative measures to avoid contact with contaminated soil and water sources.
