Chefs Daniel and Tamara Chavez, the duo behind the Singaporean restaurant Canchita, recently hosted a unique culinary event in Lima, Peru. Collaborating with renowned Peruvian chef Gastón Acurio at his establishment, La Mar, the couple introduced nearly 200 local guests to iconic Singaporean dishes such as chilli crab and chicken rice. The event also featured a traditional lohei ceremony, where diners participated in the customary tossing of ingredients while reciting auspicious phrases. This cultural exchange took place in July, successfully bridging the 18,000-kilometer gap between Singapore and South America by showcasing the vibrant flavors and festive customs of the Lion City to a Peruvian audience.
