Four opposition parliamentarians have walked out of the tenth meeting of the Parliamentary Select Committee tasked with overseeing Provincial Council elections. Legislators Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Mano Ganesan, Shanakiyan Rasamanickam, and Nizam Kariapper initiated the boycott to protest the committee's perceived lack of urgency and failure to achieve tangible results. Speaking for the group, MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam stated that the committee has remained unproductive despite holding ten sessions. The opposition members argue that the process is stalling, even though the Election Commission has already submitted a viable proposal to hold the polls using the current proportional representation system. By withdrawing from the proceedings, these members are signaling their dissatisfaction with the current pace of electoral preparations and the committee's inability to move forward with necessary reforms.
