A recent study conducted by the Supreme Court of South Korea indicates that approximately 80 percent of judges have dealt with legal proceedings involving fake or non-existent precedents produced by artificial intelligence. The findings, released on Monday, stem from a survey of 360 judges carried out between October 6 and 16. This investigation was initiated to address the growing concern regarding AI hallucination, a phenomenon where artificial intelligence systems confidently present inaccurate or invented data as factual information. The prevalence of these fabricated citations in court documents highlights the challenges the judiciary faces as AI tools become more integrated into legal research and writing processes.
