Tseng Wen-sheng, chairman of Taiwan Power Co., has called for the electricity sector to participate directly in technology industry decision-making processes. As computing power and semiconductor manufacturing become increasingly dependent on reliable energy, Tseng argues that Taipower must evolve beyond a simple utility provider to a strategic partner. He emphasized the need for collaborative planning regarding renewable energy procurement, storage solutions, and supply chain requirements. With the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and data centers, the timeline for energy infrastructure investment has compressed significantly. While Tseng maintains that current supply levels are adequate to support national industrial needs, he highlighted the challenges posed by unpredictable demand growth. Moving forward, Taipower intends to foster closer cooperation with tech firms to ensure that the power grid can effectively support evolving industrial demands through improved distribution and coordination with green energy sources.
