Taiwan's Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has confirmed 30 mpox cases so far in 2026, including two recently identified infections. Ten of these cases were imported, representing a doubling compared to the same period last year. Most individuals affected were men between 20 and 50 years old, and epidemiological investigations indicate a strong link to unprotected sexual activity, with nearly 80 percent of patients not having received an mpox vaccine. While overall mpox occurrences have significantly decreased since 2022, imported infections now constitute a larger proportion of the total. The CDC attributes this to the success of the domestic vaccination drive in curbing local transmission, but notes that some unvaccinated individuals continue to engage in high-risk behaviors during international travel. The agency emphasizes that a two-dose vaccination regimen offers approximately 90 percent protection against the virus.
