Thai government officials are currently reviewing a proposal to extend the permitted operating hours for entertainment establishments located on Khao San Road and the adjacent Rambuttri Road. Led by Paradorn Prissananantakul, a minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, the initiative involves coordination with local police and municipal authorities. The primary objectives of this pilot program include modernizing existing licensing regulations and improving enforcement protocols. Furthermore, the discussions aim to address persistent reports of corruption, specifically allegations that certain business owners have provided illicit payments to officials to bypass regulatory compliance. This policy review was initiated following broader concerns regarding the prevalence of unlicensed nightlife and dining venues operating within Bangkok and Rayong province, signaling a potential shift in how the government manages the capital's vibrant tourism-focused entertainment districts.
