The Thai government has issued an alert for residents situated along the Chao Phraya River following a decision by the Royal Irrigation Department to boost water discharge from the Chao Phraya Dam. Effective from noon on September 30, the release rate was raised to 2,500 cubic metres per second. This adjustment is a response to incoming water volumes projected to reach up to 3,700 cubic metres per second shortly. Officials anticipate that the C.2 monitoring station in Nakhon Sawan will record peak flows of approximately 3,000 cubic metres per second by October 2. While some water is being diverted into irrigation channels, authorities are emphasizing the need for constant vigilance in low-lying regions located outside of existing flood protection barriers as water levels continue to climb.
