A staff member at The Nuggets Academy in Singapore narrowly avoided falling victim to a sophisticated impersonation scam. The perpetrators contacted the employee via WhatsApp, posing as the tuition centre's founder, Sandra Lim. The scammers requested a S$20,000 transfer, claiming the funds were necessary for business expansion. To enhance the credibility of the ruse, the fraudsters managed to archive the legitimate chat history and block the actual founder's contact on the employee's device. This manipulation allowed the scammers to present a seemingly authentic conversation thread. Although the employee was initially deceived by the appearance of the messages, she eventually identified the fraudulent nature of the request before any money was transferred. The founder shared these details to warn others about the increasing prevalence of such deceptive tactics used to target employees through messaging platforms.
