The Turkish Foreign Ministry has formally denounced the military honors and state-level participation observed during the funeral of Ratko Mladić. Mladić, the former Bosnian Serb commander, was found guilty of genocide for his role in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 8,000 Bosniak men and boys. Ministry spokesperson Öncü Keçeli stated that utilizing a funeral service to dismiss established war crimes and the resulting trauma is entirely unacceptable. According to Ankara, such displays of glorification disregard international judicial rulings and exacerbate the suffering of surviving families. Furthermore, the ministry emphasized that these actions undermine regional efforts toward reconciliation and long-term stability in the Balkans. Turkey reiterated the necessity of learning from historical atrocities to foster a peaceful future for the region, while also paying tribute to the victims of the Bosnian War.
