The Turkish government has officially put forward Feridun Hadi Sinirlioğlu, the current secretary-general of the OSCE, as a candidate for the role of UN secretary-general. This move follows a period of stagnation in the selection process, as the UN Security Council failed to reach a consensus during recent informal voting. A formal letter from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was delivered to the leadership of both the UN General Assembly and the Security Council. In his correspondence, President Erdoğan emphasized Turkey's dedication to multilateral cooperation amidst rising global geopolitical tensions and a decline in international trust. Sinirlioğlu brings over forty years of diplomatic background to the candidacy, having previously served in various senior-level positions within the Turkish government throughout his extensive career.
