Official data from China indicates that natural disasters during August resulted in direct economic losses totaling 36.03 billion yuan, equivalent to approximately US$5.38 billion. The most significant impact originated from Typhoon Dolphin, which accounted for 28.26 billion yuan of the total damage, representing nearly 78% of the monthly losses. Beyond the typhoon, severe mudslides and flooding near the border between Tibet and Nepal contributed to the casualty count, with 43 fatalities and 519 individuals reported missing. In total, the emergency management ministry recorded 595 deaths or disappearances throughout the month. These environmental events affected 12.62 million people across the country and damaged 857,400 hectares of agricultural crops. The ministry identified Typhoon Dolphin as the most powerful storm to impact Chinese territory during the current year.
