United Nations Secretary General António Guterres has formally voiced his apprehension regarding persistent Houthi military operations targeting civilian infrastructure within Saudi Arabia, alongside intensified combat near the Yemeni city of Taiz. During a press briefing in New York, Guterres emphasized that these hostile actions are inflicting significant civilian hardship and exacerbating instability across the region. He specifically urged an immediate cessation of strikes against essential facilities, including medical centers, educational institutions, airports, and energy infrastructure. The UN leader cautioned that such escalations negatively impact global supply chains, energy markets, and financial stability, thereby increasing economic burdens for populations worldwide. Consequently, Guterres advocated for a commitment to international law, the protection of non-combatants, and the pursuit of a diplomatic resolution to the Yemeni conflict through UN-mediated channels.
